Wait, don't scroll yet. Three things nobody tells you before your first trip abroad, and the last one saves real money.
Voices
This line runs about 8 seconds. Play up to 220 characters at a time in your browser, free, with no account. To keep the audio for your video, sign up free: the dashboard saves each clip as a WAV file and the API returns MP3. Free signup gives 10,000 free text-to-speech characters and one free voice clone that speaks every language, no card required.
Built in or external
TikTok's built-in text-to-speech vs an external voice
TikTok's own voice is free and quick, and for a one-off meme it is often the right choice. An external voice earns its extra step when you need another language, your own voice or a file you can reuse.

How it sounds to viewers
TikTok describes text-to-speech on its accessibility help page: add text to your video, tap the text, then choose Text-to-speech. We could not load TikTok’s help pages from our network on the day we checked, so menu names may differ in your app version.
Step by step
How to add the voice-over to your TikTok
We could not find a TikTok help page that describes importing an audio file into TikTok's own editor, so the reliable route is to put the voice into the video before you upload it.
Make the audio
- 01Write the script and play it on this page in two or three voices. Keep the one that fits your account.
- 02Sign up free. In the dashboard, generate the script one scene at a time and use Download audio, which saves a WAV file to your phone.
- 03Developers can call the API with "output_format": "mp3" for MP3 files instead.
Put it in the video
- 01Open your editor: VN, InShot, Instagram's Edits app, or CapCut where it is available. Each one can import audio from your phone's files.
- 02Add your clips, then add the audio file on the track under them.
- 03Cut each clip on a sentence, add on-screen captions for viewers who watch muted, and export at 9:16.
In Edits the path is Audio, then Collections, then Import from files. CapCut’s guide says you can upload audio from your device; VN lists importing your own audio.
Steps from Instagram Help: add or import music and audio in Edits. Menu names can differ by app version.
Post on TikTok
- 01In TikTok, tap the + button and upload the finished video from your gallery.
- 02Keep the video's own sound on, so the voice-over plays.
- 03If the voice is realistic, turn on TikTok's AI-generated content setting before you post (see the FAQ).
Voices by style
Voices for the TikTok formats people actually make
Grouped by the kind of read each format needs. Each voice here is a Sonex catalogue voice; press Hear to play the sample line in it.
Upbeat narrator
Product finds, app tips, travel lists and anything that counts down from three.
Write it like this: Short sentences, a number at the start of each point, an exclamation mark only where you want a lift.
- Jonathan · Male · English, American · catalogue tone: Energetic, Professional
- Liz · Female · English, American · catalogue tone: Warm, Expressive
- Ruhi · Female · English, Indian · catalogue tone: Enthusiastic, Professional
Okay, three apps that make an old phone feel brand new. Number one is already on your phone. You just never opened it.
Deep motivational
Gym, discipline and study-motivation edits, usually over slow footage and music.
Write it like this: Very short lines, each ending in a full stop, so the voice pauses between them. Leave room for the music.
- George · Male · English, British · catalogue tone: Calm, Expressive
- Mark · Male · English, American · catalogue tone: Relaxed, Professional
- Tariq · Male · Arabic · catalogue tone: Calm, Expressive
Nobody is coming to do it for you. Not today. Not next week. So start small. One page. One rep. One step. Then do it again tomorrow.
Calm storyteller
Story time, mysteries and "part one" series where viewers stay for the ending.
Write it like this: Longer sentences with commas, a full stop before the twist, and end on a question or a cliffhanger.
- Charlotte · Female · English, British · catalogue tone: Warm, Expressive
- Archie · Male · English, Australian · catalogue tone: Calm, Professional
- Nour · Female · Arabic · catalogue tone: Natural, Calm
The note was folded twice and tucked behind the mirror. Nobody in the house remembered putting it there. And the handwriting looked a lot like Grandma's.
Clear explainer in Arabic
Gulf tech, money and "did you know" accounts that explain one thing per video.
Write it like this: Write the way you speak, in your dialect. A question first, the answer in two or three short sentences.
- Tariq · Male · Arabic · catalogue tone: Calm, Expressive
- Nour · Female · Arabic · catalogue tone: Natural, Calm
تبون تعرفون ليش الجوال يسخن في الصيف؟ السبب بسيط، وفيه ثلاث حلول سهلة. تابعوا للآخر.
Want to know why your phone heats up in summer? The reason is simple, and there are three easy fixes. Watch to the end.
There are no style presets: the style comes from the voice you pick and from how you write the script. Short sentences and full stops slow a read down; question marks lift it; exclamation marks add energy.
Languages
The same voice-over, in your audience's language
One real TikTok-style line in each language, ready to play. Any voice reads any of them; the ones below are the natural first pick.

English: a product find
This little clip-on light changed my whole desk setup. It charges by USB, it has three brightness levels, and it costs less than lunch. Link's in my bio.

Going on a desert trip this weekend? Don't forget three things: extra water, a phone charger, and something warm for the night. Put them in the car now.

Urdu: a kitchen tip
گھر میں چائے ہمیشہ پھیکی بنتی ہے؟ پتی کو پانی میں دو منٹ پہلے ابالیں، پھر دودھ ڈالیں۔ فرق خود دیکھ لیجیے۔
Does the tea at home always turn out weak? Boil the leaves in the water for two minutes first, then add the milk. See the difference for yourself.
Pacing: There is no native Urdu voice yet: Hindi voices read Urdu script with a Hindi speaker's accent. For a Pakistani accent, clone your own voice.

ঢাকার জ্যামে বসে বসে বিরক্ত? এই তিনটা পডকাস্ট শুনে দেখুন, রাস্তা কখন শেষ হবে টেরই পাবেন না।
Fed up sitting in Dhaka traffic? Try these three podcasts, and you won't even notice when the ride is over.

Spanish: a plant tip
¿Tu planta se ve triste? Antes de regarla otra vez, toca la tierra. Si está húmeda, espera dos días. La mayoría de las plantas se mueren por exceso de agua.
Does your plant look sad? Before you water it again, touch the soil. If it's damp, wait two days. Most plants die from too much water.

Indonesian: a daily habit
Kamu sering lupa minum air? Coba trik ini: taruh botol di samping laptop, terus habiskan sebelum jam makan siang. Gampang, kan?
Do you often forget to drink water? Try this trick: put a bottle next to your laptop, then finish it before lunch. Easy, right?
Pacing: There is no native Indonesian voice in the catalogue; every voice reads Indonesian, and a clone of a native speaker sounds most natural.
More languages: Arabic, Egyptian Arabic, Levantine Arabic, Filipino, Turkish, Portuguese and every language.
Script length
How long a TikTok script runs
TikTok's Creator Rewards Program counts videos of at least one minute. At the rates we measured, that is about 920 English characters, or about 630 Arabic ones, because Arabic is written without short vowels.
| Language | 15 s | 30 s | 60 s | 90 s |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EnglishDiya (Indian English), 922/min | 230 | 460 | 920 | 1,380 |
| ArabicNour, 626/min | 160 | 310 | 630 | 940 |
| UrduAlok (a Hindi voice), 927/min | 230 | 460 | 930 | 1,390 |
| BanglaNupur, 880/min | 220 | 440 | 880 | 1,320 |
| SpanishSofia, 925/min | 230 | 460 | 930 | 1,390 |
Each language was timed with one voice; other voices run up to a fifth faster or slower, so play your script once before you cut the video to it. A play without an account takes 220 characters.

Voice cloning
Your own voice, speaking Bangla
Clone your voice from a 10-second recording. Your clone speaks Bangla, and every other language Pāṇini supports, in your own voice. The language comes from the text you type, so a clone recorded in English or Hindi can read a Bangla script.
Your accent comes with it: a clone sounds like you speaking Bangla, not like a different native speaker. Every free account includes one voice clone. Clone only your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed.
FAQ
Questions creators ask
No. These are Sonex Labs voices from our own catalogue, not TikTok's, and none is made to imitate one. TikTok's built-in voices are only available inside the TikTok app. If you want a voice no other account has, clone your own.
Yes, as far as Sonex Labs is concerned: audio you generate, free or paid, can be used commercially with no attribution. Whether a video earns is TikTok's decision. Its Creator Rewards Program terms count videos of at least one minute, and the EEA terms add that a video must be original content produced by the creator or add new ideas to existing content. Neither bans AI voices. Write your own script and use footage you made or have the rights to.
TikTok asks creators to label realistic AI-generated content, which includes audio, using the AI-generated content setting when you post. Label it whenever a viewer could take the voice for a real person, and never make a voice sound like a real person saying something they did not say. TikTok's AI-generated content help page has the current rule.
The playground on this page plays audio in your browser only. Sign up free, generate the script in the dashboard and use Download audio, which saves a WAV file; the API returns MP3 when you set "output_format": "mp3". Add the file to your video in VN, InShot, Edits or CapCut, then upload the video to TikTok.
Yes. Write the script the way your audience speaks and the voice reads it as written: Gulf, Egyptian or Levantine Arabic spelling, Urdu in Urdu script, Bangla in Bangla script. The Arabic voices are native; Urdu is read by Hindi voices with a Hindi speaker's accent, and the Bangla voices have an Indian Bengali accent. A clone of your own voice keeps your accent in every language.
There is no speed control on the website. Speed up the clip in your video editor, or, if you use the API, set the speed parameter between 0.5 and 2.0. Shorter sentences also make a read feel quicker.
No. Sonex has natural voices only: no character, cartoon or celebrity voices and no voice changer. Cloning is for your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed, never a public figure.
Yes. Audio you generate, on the free tier or with paid credits, can be used on monetised YouTube channels, Shorts, Reels and in ads, with no attribution. YouTube limits mass-produced, repetitive videos, not AI voices, so write your own script and keep your edits original. The monetisation decision is YouTube's.
The audio you generate is yours to use, including commercially, with no attribution and no royalties to Sonex Labs. You are responsible for the script itself: if you read someone else's text, you need their permission.
Yes. A Sonex voice clone is not tied to the language it was recorded in. Type a Bangla script and your clone reads it in your own voice, with Bangla pronunciation. Your natural accent carries over, so it sounds like you speaking Bangla.
