Sample scripts
Three Malayalam scripts to start from
Each one fits in a single play. Hear it, then copy it into the playground and change it to your own topic.
Shorts hook · 117 characters · about 6 s
A ten-minute snack from leftover rice
One minute! Do you throw away leftover rice? Here's a great snack you can make with it in ten minutes.
How to read it: Recipe Shorts open best on the problem the viewer already has. Malayalam packs a lot into each word, about 1,100 characters a minute when we timed it, so a 15-second hook can run to about 275 characters.
Story narration · 156 characters · about 8 s
A song from an empty house in Kuttanad
There was an old house on the bank of that backwater in Kuttanad. Every Karkidakam month, at twelve at night, a song could be heard from that house.
How to read it: Long Malayalam words need room. Split clauses with commas, keep one image per sentence, and end ghost and mystery lines on a full stop so the voice settles.
Explainer · 160 characters · about 9 s
Before you pay for a cheap deal online
Watch one thing when you buy online. Don't pay straight away just because the price looks low. First check the seller's reviews, then read the return policy.
How to read it: Short commands (ശ്രദ്ധിക്കൂ, നോക്കൂ) keep an explainer moving. English words such as review and return policy can be written in Malayalam letters, as here, or left in English.
More ready-made scripts, with timings, are in the voice-over script templates.
Instagram Reels
AI voice for Instagram Reels
Malayalam Reels are recipes, Kerala travel, Gulf life and comedy, often in Manglish. English words can go in Malayalam letters or stay in English; Vani reads both.
Malayalam packs the most into each minute of any language we timed, about 1,103 characters a minute with Vani, so a 60-second Reel takes about 1,100 characters, five plays in the playground. Split it into clips by shot.

A short money-tip Reel · 180 characters · about 10 s
Sending money home from the Gulf? Check one thing before you send. The exchange rate alone isn't enough, add the fee too. Only then do you know how much really arrives.
How to read it: Question, one command, the reason. Malayalam's long words need commas where you breathe, so the voice has room between clauses.
- 1
Save the audio
Play the Reel script here until the read is right, then sign up free, generate it in the dashboard and tap Download audio to save a WAV file. One clip per shot is easier to line up than one long file. - 2
Add it in Edits, VN or InShot
Import the saved file into VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app:- Instagram's Edits app: open your project, tap Audio in the toolbar at the bottom, then tap the folder icon to import the file. To set how loud a layer is, tap it, then Volume. Instagram Help: Edit your video on Edits.
- VN: in the music library, open Yours, tap the ⋮ (More) menu and choose File App to import the file. Tap the music clip on the timeline to set its volume. VN Help: Import music and audio.
- InShot: add the file through InShot's music tools, which take music and voice-overs. InShot has no written help page for this, so the name of the import option can differ between versions. InShot on the App Store.
- 3
Export and post it as a reel
Keep the project vertical (9:16) and export it. In Instagram, tap + (Create), choose Reel, pick the video from your camera roll, tap Next, then Share (Instagram Help). If you edited in Edits, its export screen can also share the video straight to Instagram as a reel (Edits help).
These steps follow each app's own pages as checked on 26 October 2026. Button names move between app versions and can differ between iPhone and Android, so if one is not where it says, the linked page has the current steps.
- Plan by shot. At about 280 characters per 15 seconds, one Malayalam sentence can cover two shots. Generate one clip per shot so each lines up.
- Manglish either way. എക്സ്ചേഞ്ച് റേറ്റ് or exchange rate: Vani reads both.

Voices
Malayalam voices for creators
Malayalam has one native voice in the public catalogue, Vani. There is no native male Malayalam voice yet; any other voice can read Malayalam with its own accent, or clone your own from 10 seconds.
Female · Natural, Calm · Malayalam
Vani
Natural and calm. Suits recipes, travel, story narration and explainers.
How to
Make a Malayalam voice-over video in 5 steps
- 1
Write the script
Write in the Malayalam you speak, with Manglish words in Malayalam or English letters as your viewers write them. Long compound words read better split, where the grammar allows.
- 2
Pick a voice
Play the same line in two or three of the voices on this page and keep the one that fits your channel. Use one voice for every video, so viewers learn to recognise it.
- 3
Play it, then save the audio
Each play takes up to 220 characters, about 12 seconds of Malayalam, and plays in your browser only, so use it to check how the voice reads your lines. To save the audio, sign up free: the dashboard draws on your 10,000 free characters and saves each clip as a WAV file, and the API returns MP3 when you ask for "output_format": "mp3".
- 4
Add it in your video editor
Import the saved WAV or MP3 files into VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app as audio. Lay the clips on the audio track in order, trim the gaps, and line each sentence up with its shot.
- 5
Upload
Export and upload to YouTube, Shorts, Instagram Reels or Facebook. If the voice is realistic enough that viewers could take it for a real person, tick YouTube's altered or synthetic content label. YouTube’s help page explains when it applies.
Commercial use
Use Malayalam AI voice-overs on monetised channels
- Use the audio in YouTube videos, Shorts, Instagram Reels, podcasts and ads, including on monetised channels.
- This applies to the free tier and to paid credits. No attribution to Sonex Labs is needed.
- You are responsible for your script, and for disclosing realistic synthetic content where a platform asks you to.
The full wording is in our terms of service.
YouTube
Can a channel with an AI voice be monetised?
Yes, AI voices are allowed. What YouTube limits is mass-produced, repetitive content: videos made from a template with little original work. Its July 2025 update renamed that rule from “repetitious” to “inauthentic” content (YouTube’s monetisation policies).
Write your own script, add your own research or editing, and keep one consistent voice for the channel. Where a realistic AI voice could mislead viewers, use YouTube’s altered or synthetic content label. The monetisation decision is always YouTube’s.
Voice cloning
Your own voice, speaking Malayalam
Clone your voice from a 10-second recording. Your clone speaks Malayalam, and every other language Pāṇini supports, in your own voice. The language comes from the text you type, so a clone recorded in English or Hindi can read a Malayalam script.
Your accent comes with it: a clone sounds like you speaking Malayalam, not like a different native speaker. Every free account includes one voice clone. Clone only your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed.

FAQ
Malayalam voice-over questions
Yes, to try. The playground on this page plays up to 220 characters at a time in your browser, with no account. A free account adds 10,000 characters and one voice clone, no card required, and lets you save the audio as a file. After that it is $0.03125 per 1,000 characters (about ₹2.97), the same rate for every language.
220 characters per play without an account, which is two or three sentences, about 12 seconds of Malayalam with Vani, enough to hear how a voice reads your lines. For a full video, sign up free, generate the script scene by scene in the dashboard with your 10,000 free characters, and join the clips in your editor.
Yes, after free sign-up. The playground on this page plays audio in your browser only, so use it to pick the voice. Once you sign up free, the dashboard saves each clip as a WAV file with Download audio, and the API returns MP3 when you set "output_format": "mp3". Then add the file in VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app.
Yes. Audio you generate, on the free tier or with paid credits, can be used on monetised YouTube channels, Shorts, Reels and in ads, with no attribution. YouTube limits mass-produced, repetitive videos, not AI voices, so write your own script and keep your edits original. The monetisation decision is YouTube's.
The audio you generate is yours to use, including commercially, with no attribution and no royalties to Sonex Labs. You are responsible for the script itself: if you read someone else's text, you need their permission.
The voices are expressive and follow your punctuation: a question mark lifts the line, an exclamation mark gives it energy, a full stop lets it settle and a comma adds a short pause. There are no emotion or style presets, so the script is where you shape the read. Developers can also set the pace with the API's speed parameter (0.5 to 2.0).
Yes. The page works in a phone browser: paste the script, pick a voice and play it to check the read. To save the audio, sign up free and use the dashboard in the same browser; it saves each clip as a WAV file you can add in VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app. There is no app to install.
Yes. Record a 10-second sample and Pāṇini clones your voice; every free account includes one clone. Clone only your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed, and never a public figure.
Yes. A Sonex voice clone is not tied to the language it was recorded in. Type a Malayalam script and your clone reads it in your own voice, with Malayalam pronunciation. Your natural accent carries over, so it sounds like you speaking Malayalam.
About 9.1 minutes with Vani, the voice we timed: Malayalam came out at about 1,103 characters per minute of finished audio, more than most Indian languages, because the script packs more letters into each word.
