Sample scripts

Three Tamil scripts to start from

Each one fits in a single play. Hear it, then copy it into the playground and change it to your own topic.

  • Shorts hook · 110 characters · about 8 s

Three settings that save your battery

One minute! Does your phone charge run out fast? Change these three settings and you'll see the difference straight away.

How to read it: Open with the question your viewer is already asking. Spoken forms (போகுதா, மாத்துங்க) sound like a person talking; written forms (போகிறதா, மாற்றுங்கள்) sound like a news bulletin. Pick one register and keep it for the whole video.

  • Story narration · 167 characters · about 12 s

The last bus that never came

The last bus to that village comes at ten at night. That day alone, the bus never came. But the old man standing at the bus stop just kept smiling.

How to read it: For story and horror channels, use short sentences and give the twist its own sentence. The full stop before ஆனா is what makes the listener wait for it.

  • Explainer · 128 characters · about 9 s

You never need a PIN to receive money

Remember one thing when you send money on UPI. You never need to enter a PIN to receive money. If anyone asks for your PIN, it's a scam.

How to read it: Tamil explainers mix in English terms freely (UPI, PIN). Leave them in Latin letters; the voice reads mixed Tamil and English in one go. One instruction per sentence keeps it easy to follow on a phone speaker.

More ready-made scripts, with timings, are in the voice-over script templates.

Movie recaps

Pacing a Tamil movie recap voice-over

Recap narration runs faster than a story channel and slower than a news read. Tell it in the present tense (ஹீரோ ஊருக்கு வர்றார்), one event per sentence, with a full stop before every twist so the viewer can catch up with the picture. Keep sentences short so the read stays brisk, and generate one scene at a time so each clip matches its footage.

Write the recap in your own words. Our licence covers the audio you generate, not the film: clips, posters and dialogue belong to their rights holders, and YouTube judges recap channels on whether your narration adds something of its own. Retelling a plot from memory, with your own take on it, is the part that is yours.

A recap opening (original, no real film)

This film starts in a small village. One day, a tea-shop owner there gets a mysterious letter. Everything that happens after that is a twist nobody sees coming.

Instagram Reels

AI voice for Instagram Reels

Tamil Reels are often movie and series recaps cut down to a minute, food spots, and quick tech or money tips in spoken Tamil with English words mixed in. Write the spoken forms (சாப்பிடணுமா, போயிடுங்க) for Reels; the written forms sound like a news read.

With Kavya, Tamil came out at about 849 characters a minute, so a 60-second recap Reel is about 850 characters, four plays in the playground, and a 15-second food Reel about 210.

A short food-spot Reel · 164 characters · about 12 s

Want a great tiffin in Chennai for under a hundred rupees? Get to this little shop by seven in the morning. Pongal, vada, coffee, all three are superb. The location is in the caption.

How to read it: One sentence per shot: the question over the street, the time over the shop front, the list over the plates. Say the location line plainly at the end.

  1. 1

    Save the audio

Play the Reel script here until the read is right, then sign up free, generate it in the dashboard and tap Download audio to save a WAV file. One clip per shot is easier to line up than one long file.
  2. 2

Add it in Edits, VN or InShot

Import the saved file into VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app:
    • Instagram's Edits app: open your project, tap Audio in the toolbar at the bottom, then tap the folder icon to import the file. To set how loud a layer is, tap it, then Volume. Instagram Help: Edit your video on Edits.
    • VN: in the music library, open Yours, tap the ⋮ (More) menu and choose File App to import the file. Tap the music clip on the timeline to set its volume. VN Help: Import music and audio.
    • InShot: add the file through InShot's music tools, which take music and voice-overs. InShot has no written help page for this, so the name of the import option can differ between versions. InShot on the App Store.
  3. 3

Export and post it as a reel

Keep the project vertical (9:16) and export it. In Instagram, tap + (Create), choose Reel, pick the video from your camera roll, tap Next, then Share (Instagram Help). If you edited in Edits, its export screen can also share the video straight to Instagram as a reel (Edits help).

These steps follow each app's own pages as checked on 26 October 2026. Button names move between app versions and can differ between iPhone and Android, so if one is not where it says, the linked page has the current steps.

  • Recaps: setup, turn, question. Cut a recap Reel to the setup, the twist and one question for the comments. Write it in your own words; the movie-recap section above has the rest.
  • Location last. End a food or travel Reel on where it is, and put the same place in the caption.
  • English words either way. லொகேஷன், கேப்ஷன் or location, caption: Kavya reads both.

Voices

Tamil voices for creators

Tamil has one native voice in the public catalogue, Kavya. There is no native male Tamil voice yet: any other voice can read Tamil with its own accent, or you can clone your own voice from 10 seconds.

  • Female · Natural, Professional · Tamil

    Kavya

Natural and clear. Reads spoken and written Tamil, and suits recaps, explainers, cooking and story channels.

    About Kavya

How to

Make a Tamil voice-over video in 5 steps

  1. 1

    Write the script

Write in the register of your channel: spoken Tamil (இன்னைக்கு, பாருங்க) for vlogs and recaps, written Tamil for documentaries. Spell words the way they should sound; the voice reads what is written.

  2. 2

    Pick a voice

Play the same line in two or three of the voices on this page and keep the one that fits your channel. Use one voice for every video, so viewers learn to recognise it.

  3. 3

Play it, then save the audio

Each play takes up to 220 characters, about 16 seconds of Tamil, and plays in your browser only, so use it to check how the voice reads your lines. To save the audio, sign up free: the dashboard draws on your 10,000 free characters and saves each clip as a WAV file, and the API returns MP3 when you ask for "output_format": "mp3".

  4. 4

Add it in your video editor

Import the saved WAV or MP3 files into VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app as audio. Lay the clips on the audio track in order, trim the gaps, and line each sentence up with its shot.

  5. 5

    Upload

Export and upload to YouTube, Shorts, Instagram Reels or Facebook. If the voice is realistic enough that viewers could take it for a real person, tick YouTube's altered or synthetic content label. YouTube’s help page explains when it applies.

Commercial use

Use Tamil AI voice-overs on monetised channels

  • Use the audio in YouTube videos, Shorts, Instagram Reels, podcasts and ads, including on monetised channels.
  • This applies to the free tier and to paid credits. No attribution to Sonex Labs is needed.
  • You are responsible for your script, and for disclosing realistic synthetic content where a platform asks you to.

The full wording is in our terms of service.

YouTube

Can a channel with an AI voice be monetised?

Yes, AI voices are allowed. What YouTube limits is mass-produced, repetitive content: videos made from a template with little original work. Its July 2025 update renamed that rule from “repetitious” to “inauthentic” content (YouTube’s monetisation policies).

Write your own script, add your own research or editing, and keep one consistent voice for the channel. Where a realistic AI voice could mislead viewers, use YouTube’s altered or synthetic content label. The monetisation decision is always YouTube’s.

Voice cloning

Your own voice, speaking Tamil

Clone your voice from a 10-second recording. Your clone speaks Tamil, and every other language Pāṇini supports, in your own voice. The language comes from the text you type, so a clone recorded in English or Hindi can read a Tamil script.

Your accent comes with it: a clone sounds like you speaking Tamil, not like a different native speaker. Every free account includes one voice clone. Clone only your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed.

FAQ

Tamil voice-over questions

Yes, to try. The playground on this page plays up to 220 characters at a time in your browser, with no account. A free account adds 10,000 characters and one voice clone, no card required, and lets you save the audio as a file. After that it is $0.03125 per 1,000 characters (about ₹2.97), the same rate for every language.

220 characters per play without an account, which is two or three sentences, about 16 seconds of Tamil with Kavya, enough to hear how a voice reads your lines. For a full video, sign up free, generate the script scene by scene in the dashboard with your 10,000 free characters, and join the clips in your editor.

Yes, after free sign-up. The playground on this page plays audio in your browser only, so use it to pick the voice. Once you sign up free, the dashboard saves each clip as a WAV file with Download audio, and the API returns MP3 when you set "output_format": "mp3". Then add the file in VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app.

Yes. Audio you generate, on the free tier or with paid credits, can be used on monetised YouTube channels, Shorts, Reels and in ads, with no attribution. YouTube limits mass-produced, repetitive videos, not AI voices, so write your own script and keep your edits original. The monetisation decision is YouTube's.

The audio you generate is yours to use, including commercially, with no attribution and no royalties to Sonex Labs. You are responsible for the script itself: if you read someone else's text, you need their permission.

The voices are expressive and follow your punctuation: a question mark lifts the line, an exclamation mark gives it energy, a full stop lets it settle and a comma adds a short pause. There are no emotion or style presets, so the script is where you shape the read. Developers can also set the pace with the API's speed parameter (0.5 to 2.0).

Yes. The page works in a phone browser: paste the script, pick a voice and play it to check the read. To save the audio, sign up free and use the dashboard in the same browser; it saves each clip as a WAV file you can add in VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app. There is no app to install.

Yes. Record a 10-second sample and Pāṇini clones your voice; every free account includes one clone. Clone only your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed, and never a public figure.

Yes. A Sonex voice clone is not tied to the language it was recorded in. Type a Tamil script and your clone reads it in your own voice, with Tamil pronunciation. Your natural accent carries over, so it sounds like you speaking Tamil.

It reads what you write. Spell it the spoken way (இன்னைக்கு, வருது) and you get spoken Tamil; spell it the written way (இன்று, வருகிறது) and you get the formal register. Play a line before you generate the whole script.

Yes, for the narration. The audio you generate is yours to use on a monetised channel. Film footage and dialogue are not covered by our licence, so write the recap in your own words and follow YouTube's rules on reused content.
