Hindi audio to text, free

Upload a voice note, a call recording or a video and get Hindi text back. It is free for files up to 2 minutes without an account (3 files a day); longer files need a free account. Download the result as text, Word or subtitles. The text comes back in Devanagari, with the English words people mix in (order, check, refund) written in Devanagari too.

MP3, M4A, WAV, WhatsApp .opus, MP4 · up to 2 min free

Upload a voice note, call recording or video in Hindi, or record yourself. Free up to 2 minutes a file, 3 files a day, no account.

Your transcript appears here, exactly as Valmiki returns it.

Upload MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, FLAC, AMR, a WhatsApp voice note (.opus or .ogg) or an MP4 or MOV video, or record up to 2 minutes from your microphone. Switch between Devanagari, Roman script and an English translation (made by Vyas, our language model, when you open the tab), then copy the text or download TXT or DOCX, plus SRT subtitles for uploaded files. No account needed for files up to 2 minutes, 3 a day.

Hindi audio to text converter

Drop in an audio or video file and get Hindi text back in Devanagari. It reads MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, FLAC and AMR audio, WhatsApp voice notes (.opus and .ogg) and MP4 or MOV video, and the file is decoded on our server, so it works the same on an iPhone. You can also record from your microphone. There is no language menu: Valmiki STT, the speech recognition model behind it, works out that the speech is Hindi, including English words in the middle of a sentence.

Real transcripts

What Valmiki STT returned for Hindi.

Each clip was rendered by Pāṇini TTS and streamed to Valmiki STT twice: as a clean recording and as an 8 kHz phone-quality copy. The transcripts are shown exactly as they came back, errors included. Tested 24 October 2026. These are synthetic clips, not recorded calls.

Phone quality (8 kHz)Real output, 24 October 2026
What was said
हाँ जी, मेरा order अभी तक deliver नहीं हुआ है। आप एक बार check करके बता सकते हैं कि कब तक आएगा?
Yes, my order still hasn't been delivered. Could you check and tell me when it will arrive?
What Valmiki STT returned, unedited
हां जी, मेरा ऑर्डर अभी तक डिलीवर नहीं हुआ है। आप एक बार चेक करके बता सकते हैं कि कब तक आएगा?

Same transcript in both phone-quality runs.

How to judge the accuracy yourself

No public benchmark includes Valmiki STT, so we do not publish a table comparing it with other services. Judge it on audio like yours instead. Play each clip above and compare what was said with what came back, word by word. Then upload a recording of your own that is close to what you will really transcribe: the same kind of phone line or microphone, the same speakers, the same mix of Hindi and English. Count the words that changed meaning, not the spelling variants, and try the 8 kHz case if your audio comes from calls.

About Hindi

How Hindi speech comes out as text.

Hindi on a phone call or a voice note is rarely pure Hindi. People say order, delivery, refund and EMI in English in the middle of a Hindi sentence. Valmiki STT detects the language by itself and writes those English words in Devanagari, as ऑर्डर, डिलीवर and चेक, so the transcript reads as one Hindi sentence.

We tested it on a short complaint call, rendered once as a clean recording and once as an 8 kHz phone-quality copy. Both phone-quality runs came back word for word. One of the two clean runs misheard the opening हाँ जी as आज ही, which is why the raw output is shown rather than a tidied one.

Dialects and mixing

Hindi, Hinglish and the speech of the Hindi belt.

Spoken Hindi stretches from Rajasthan to Bihar, and much of what people call Hindi at home is Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Haryanvi, Marwari or Maithili, or Hindi coloured by them. Valmiki STT's language list has Hindi but none of these as separate languages. A regional accent on standard Hindi is still Hindi to it; a voice note in Bhojpuri or Marwari proper is a different matter, and we have not tested it, so try a few of your own clips before you depend on it.

Hinglish is the other everyday form: Hindi sentences full of English words, or whole English phrases in between. Valmiki STT keeps the English words but writes them in Devanagari (ऑर्डर, डिलीवर). If you want the text the way people type Hinglish in chats, in Roman letters, use the Roman script tab, or the Hinglish page, where Roman-letter output is the point.

Use cases

What people turn into Hindi text.

WhatsApp voice notes to Hindi text

A relative's long message, a landlord's instructions, a supplier reading out rates: Hindi voice notes are quick to send and slow to go back through. Upload the .opus file, keep the Devanagari text, or switch to the English tab for someone who does not read Hindi.

YouTube videos to Hindi text

Hindi vlogs, lectures, recipes and news clips. For videos on your own channel, download the MP4 from YouTube Studio, upload it and take the text for a blog post or description, or the SRT file as a start on captions.

Interviews and meetings

Hindi and Hinglish interviews for research, journalism or hiring, and recorded team calls. Record on your phone, upload parts of up to 10 minutes after a free sign-up, and download a Word file to quote from.

Call recordings

Recorded support and sales calls, where callers mix order, refund and EMI into Hindi. Read or search the text to find what was promised instead of listening again; at volume, send the files to the API.

Voice typing

How to voice-type in Hindi.

Voice typing is a different job from transcribing a file: you speak and the words appear as you go. Sonex Labs has no voice-typing keyboard or app, so for that, use the tools already on your phone or computer.

  1. 1. Android phone (Gboard)

Install Gboard, open its settings, add Hindi (हिन्दी) under Languages, then tap the microphone on the keyboard and speak. The words appear in Devanagari as you talk.

  2. 2. iPhone

Add the Hindi keyboard in Settings, then General, Keyboard, Keyboards. If your iPhone offers dictation for Hindi, a microphone key appears on that keyboard; tap it and speak.

  3. 3. WhatsApp

To type a message by voice, tap the microphone on your keyboard, not the voice-note button in WhatsApp; the keyboard writes the words into the chat box. WhatsApp can also show a transcript under a received voice message in some languages (Settings, then Chats, then Voice message transcripts). If Hindi is not offered there, save the voice note and upload it above.

  4. 4. Microsoft Word

Word's Dictate button on the Home tab lists Hindi as a supported language. Pick Hindi in Dictate's settings, press Dictate and speak.

  5. 5. Windows

Windows 11 voice typing lists Hindi. Switch the keyboard input to Hindi (Windows key + Space), click into a text box, press Windows key + H and speak.

For recordings longer than a minute, use the uploader above.

FAQ

Hindi speech to text, answered.

Yes, for short files. The uploader on this page turns Hindi audio into text with no account for files up to 2 minutes, 3 files a day. For longer files, sign up free and transcribe files of up to 10 minutes and 10 MB each in the dashboard or through the API; that costs $0.00525 a minute, billed by the second, so a 10-minute recording costs about 5.25 US cents.

There is no app to install. The uploader works in the browser on a phone too: open this page on Android or iPhone, pick a voice note, recording or video from your files, and read the Hindi text. For typing by voice as you speak, use your phone keyboard's microphone, as described in the voice-typing steps above.

Yes. It runs in a current browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on a Windows PC or a Mac, and Safari or Chrome on an iPhone or Android phone. Files are decoded on our server, so an iPhone voice memo, a WhatsApp .opus note or a MOV video works the same as on a PC. There is nothing to install.

Long-press the voice note in WhatsApp and share or export it to your files; on Android, received voice notes are also kept as .opus files in WhatsApp's media folder. Upload the .opus or .ogg file here and the Hindi text appears. Notes up to 2 minutes need no account.

Upload the audio, then open the English tab above the transcript. Vyas, our language model, translates the Hindi transcript when you open the tab, and you can copy it or download it like the transcript. Check names, amounts and dates against the Hindi text, because a word misheard in Hindi carries into the English.

Yes. The uploader's Roman script tab shows the transcript in English letters, the way Hinglish is typed in chats. The API itself returns Hindi in Devanagari, as in every run of the sample on this page, so convert the text afterwards if your own system needs Roman letters.

On our test sentence, both 8 kHz phone-quality runs came back word for word, and one of the two clean runs misheard the opening हाँ जी as आज ही. That is one short sentence, not a benchmark. Upload a few recordings like your own and compare the text with what was said to judge it for your audio.

Without an account, 2 minutes per file and 3 files a day. With a free account, up to 10 minutes and 10 MB per audio file in the dashboard or the API, billed by the second. For anything longer, split the recording into parts of 10 minutes or less and send each one; the API takes the same limit.

Yes. Hindi and English in the same sentence need no setting. English words spoken inside Hindi come back in Devanagari, as in the sample on this page (ऑर्डर, डिलीवर, चेक); the Roman script tab shows the whole sentence in English letters.
