Sample scripts

Three Kannada scripts to start from

Each one fits in a single play. Hear it, then copy it into the playground and change it to your own topic.

  • Shorts hook · 124 characters · about 8 s

The first thing you do every morning

One minute! Do you look at your phone the moment you wake up every morning? See in thirty seconds how this habit changes your whole day.

How to read it: A direct question to the viewer (ನೋಡ್ತೀರಾ?) is the hook; the question mark lifts the voice on it. Kannada came out at about 968 characters a minute, so a 15-second hook is about 240 characters.

  • Story narration · 175 characters · about 11 s

A lamp on a Malnad forest road

In that Malnad village the rain never stops. One night, a bus coming along the forest road suddenly stopped. When the driver got down to look, someone had left a lamp on the road.

How to read it: Arjun's calm, expressive read suits horror and folk stories. Keep the build-up in short sentences and let the last one run long; the comma before the reveal gives it a beat.

  • Explainer · 154 characters · about 10 s

Three rules for plants at home

Does growing plants at home feel hard? Remember three things. At least four hours of sun a day, water twice a week, and a hole under the pot for the water to drain.

How to read it: List-style explainers work well when the count comes first (ಮೂರು ವಿಷಯ) and the items are separated by commas. Mitaali's warm read keeps a how-to friendly.

More ready-made scripts, with timings, are in the voice-over script templates.

Instagram Reels

AI voice for Instagram Reels

Kannada Reels lean on Bengaluru city life, food, travel in Malnad and on the coast, and comedy in spoken Kannada. Write the spoken forms (ಮಾಡ್ಬೇಡಿ, ಸಿಗುತ್ತೆ) and the voice reads them that way.

Kannada came out fast, about 968 characters a minute with Mitaali, so a 15-second Reel holds about 240 characters, a little more than one play, and a 60-second one about 970.

A short Bengaluru Reel · 155 characters · about 10 s

Losing an hour a day in Bengaluru traffic? Don't waste that time. Listen to a podcast, or learn a new language. That's three hundred hours a year!

How to read it: Ask the question your viewer is living (ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾ?), then two short commands. The number at the end is the payoff, and the exclamation lifts it.

  1. 1

    Save the audio

Play the Reel script here until the read is right, then sign up free, generate it in the dashboard and tap Download audio to save a WAV file. One clip per shot is easier to line up than one long file.
  2. 2

Add it in Edits, VN or InShot

Import the saved file into VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app:
    • Instagram's Edits app: open your project, tap Audio in the toolbar at the bottom, then tap the folder icon to import the file. To set how loud a layer is, tap it, then Volume. Instagram Help: Edit your video on Edits.
    • VN: in the music library, open Yours, tap the ⋮ (More) menu and choose File App to import the file. Tap the music clip on the timeline to set its volume. VN Help: Import music and audio.
    • InShot: add the file through InShot's music tools, which take music and voice-overs. InShot has no written help page for this, so the name of the import option can differ between versions. InShot on the App Store.
  3. 3

Export and post it as a reel

Keep the project vertical (9:16) and export it. In Instagram, tap + (Create), choose Reel, pick the video from your camera roll, tap Next, then Share (Instagram Help). If you edited in Edits, its export screen can also share the video straight to Instagram as a reel (Edits help).

These steps follow each app's own pages as checked on 26 October 2026. Button names move between app versions and can differ between iPhone and Android, so if one is not where it says, the linked page has the current steps.

  • End on the number. A figure in the last line (ಮುನ್ನೂರು ಗಂಟೆ) with an exclamation gives a Reel its payoff.
  • Choose the voice by Reel type. Mitaali suits tips and how-tos; Arjun's calm read suits storytime and slower builds.

How to

Make a Kannada voice-over video in 5 steps

  1. 1

    Write the script

Write in the Kannada you speak on camera: ಹೇಳ್ತೀನಿ rather than ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ for a vlog, the written forms for a documentary. English words can stay in English letters.

  2. 2

    Pick a voice

Play the same line in two or three of the voices on this page and keep the one that fits your channel. Use one voice for every video, so viewers learn to recognise it.

  3. 3

Play it, then save the audio

Each play takes up to 220 characters, about 14 seconds of Kannada, and plays in your browser only, so use it to check how the voice reads your lines. To save the audio, sign up free: the dashboard draws on your 10,000 free characters and saves each clip as a WAV file, and the API returns MP3 when you ask for "output_format": "mp3".

  4. 4

Add it in your video editor

Import the saved WAV or MP3 files into VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app as audio. Lay the clips on the audio track in order, trim the gaps, and line each sentence up with its shot.

  5. 5

    Upload

Export and upload to YouTube, Shorts, Instagram Reels or Facebook. If the voice is realistic enough that viewers could take it for a real person, tick YouTube's altered or synthetic content label. YouTube’s help page explains when it applies.

Commercial use

Use Kannada AI voice-overs on monetised channels

  • Use the audio in YouTube videos, Shorts, Instagram Reels, podcasts and ads, including on monetised channels.
  • This applies to the free tier and to paid credits. No attribution to Sonex Labs is needed.
  • You are responsible for your script, and for disclosing realistic synthetic content where a platform asks you to.

The full wording is in our terms of service.

YouTube

Can a channel with an AI voice be monetised?

Yes, AI voices are allowed. What YouTube limits is mass-produced, repetitive content: videos made from a template with little original work. Its July 2025 update renamed that rule from “repetitious” to “inauthentic” content (YouTube’s monetisation policies).

Write your own script, add your own research or editing, and keep one consistent voice for the channel. Where a realistic AI voice could mislead viewers, use YouTube’s altered or synthetic content label. The monetisation decision is always YouTube’s.

Voice cloning

Your own voice, speaking Kannada

Clone your voice from a 10-second recording. Your clone speaks Kannada, and every other language Pāṇini supports, in your own voice. The language comes from the text you type, so a clone recorded in English or Hindi can read a Kannada script.

Your accent comes with it: a clone sounds like you speaking Kannada, not like a different native speaker. Every free account includes one voice clone. Clone only your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed.

FAQ

Kannada voice-over questions

Yes, to try. The playground on this page plays up to 220 characters at a time in your browser, with no account. A free account adds 10,000 characters and one voice clone, no card required, and lets you save the audio as a file. After that it is $0.03125 per 1,000 characters (about ₹2.97), the same rate for every language.

220 characters per play without an account, which is two or three sentences, about 14 seconds of Kannada with Mitaali, enough to hear how a voice reads your lines. For a full video, sign up free, generate the script scene by scene in the dashboard with your 10,000 free characters, and join the clips in your editor.

Yes, after free sign-up. The playground on this page plays audio in your browser only, so use it to pick the voice. Once you sign up free, the dashboard saves each clip as a WAV file with Download audio, and the API returns MP3 when you set "output_format": "mp3". Then add the file in VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app.

Yes. Audio you generate, on the free tier or with paid credits, can be used on monetised YouTube channels, Shorts, Reels and in ads, with no attribution. YouTube limits mass-produced, repetitive videos, not AI voices, so write your own script and keep your edits original. The monetisation decision is YouTube's.

The audio you generate is yours to use, including commercially, with no attribution and no royalties to Sonex Labs. You are responsible for the script itself: if you read someone else's text, you need their permission.

The voices are expressive and follow your punctuation: a question mark lifts the line, an exclamation mark gives it energy, a full stop lets it settle and a comma adds a short pause. There are no emotion or style presets, so the script is where you shape the read. Developers can also set the pace with the API's speed parameter (0.5 to 2.0).

Yes. The page works in a phone browser: paste the script, pick a voice and play it to check the read. To save the audio, sign up free and use the dashboard in the same browser; it saves each clip as a WAV file you can add in VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app. There is no app to install.

Yes. Record a 10-second sample and Pāṇini clones your voice; every free account includes one clone. Clone only your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed, and never a public figure.

Yes. A Sonex voice clone is not tied to the language it was recorded in. Type a Kannada script and your clone reads it in your own voice, with Kannada pronunciation. Your natural accent carries over, so it sounds like you speaking Kannada.

It reads what you write. Spell it the spoken way (ಬರ್ತಿದ್ದ, ಹೋಯ್ತು) and you get spoken Kannada; spell it the written way (ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದ, ಹೋಯಿತು) and you get the formal register. Play one line before you generate the whole script.
