Spam labels. Calls from 1600 numbers may not be tagged, blocked or filtered, and calls from 140 numbers may not be tagged or filtered except when the customer blocks that sector on the DND registry (TRAI Press Release 91/2026). From 28 October 2026 the rewritten regulation 34A bars caller-ID apps from tagging any designated series, 1601 included, and lets TRAI act against apps that do (TCCCPR Third Amendment). Regular 10-digit numbers have no such protection, which is the usual reason a business number shows as spam.
