To keep the audio for your video, sign up free: the dashboard saves each clip as a WAV file and the API returns MP3. India
CapCut is not available in India
CapCut has been blocked in India since July 2020. It was not in the first order of 29 June 2020, which blocked TikTok and 58 other apps; it was one of 47 more apps blocked a few weeks later, most of them versions of apps already banned (Inc42, 5 August 2020).
So if you make videos in India, the CapCut steps below do not apply to you. Use VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app instead. All three can take an audio file from your phone, and the workflow is the same: make the voice-over in Sonex, save it, and add it under your clips.
Outside India
Where CapCut is available in your country, the comparison and the import steps below are for you.

How text to speech works in CapCut
CapCut reads a text layer in a voice you choose from its list. Its help page gives these steps for the phone app, and notes that the feature may fail if the selected language or voice is not supported.
CapCut text to speech (phone)
- 01Tap Text and add text to your video.
- 02Tap the text layer on the timeline.
- 03Select Text-to-Speech from the bottom menu.
- 04Choose a voice style.
- 05Tap Generate to create the voiceover.
Steps from CapCut Help: text-to-speech. Menu names can differ by app version.
Import a Sonex voice-over (where CapCut is available)
- 01Sign up free, generate the script in the dashboard and use Download audio to save the WAV file.
- 02In CapCut, open your project and go to the Audio options.
- 03Choose to upload audio from your device and pick the file.
- 04Trim the clip and line each sentence up with its shot.
CapCut's guide says you can upload audio from your device on the phone, and use Import on the desktop app; it does not name the exact phone button, so look for the device or files option under Audio.
Steps from CapCut: add background music to a video. Menu names can differ by app version.

The same workflow in VN, InShot or Edits
Save the voice-over from the Sonex dashboard first (Download audio, a WAV file). Then:
Edits
- 01From a project, tap Audio.
- 02Tap Collections.
- 03Tap Import from files and choose the voice-over.
Edits is Instagram's own editor, so the finished video goes straight to a Reel.
Steps from Instagram Help: add or import music and audio in Edits. Menu names can differ by app version.
VN
- 01Open your project and add your clips.
- 02Add music or audio and choose your own file from the phone.
- 03Drag the clip into place and trim it to the video.
VN says you can import your own music, extract audio from videos or record voiceovers; its help pages do not give the button names, which can vary by version.
InShot
- 01Open the video and choose to add music or audio.
- 02Pick your own audio file from the phone instead of a featured track.
- 03Line it up and lower any background music under the voice.
InShot’s store listing says you can use your own music and extract audio from videos; we found no official help page with the exact menu names.
VN and InShot also have text-to-speech of their own. Use whichever voice suits the video; Sonex is for when you want more languages, your own cloned voice or the same voice on every platform.

There are no style presets: the style comes from the voice you pick and from how you write the script. Short sentences and full stops slow a read down; question marks lift it; exclamation marks add energy.

Voice cloning
Your own voice, speaking Hindi
Clone your voice from a 10-second recording. Your clone speaks Hindi, and every other language Pāṇini supports, in your own voice. The language comes from the text you type, so a clone recorded in English or Hindi can read a Hindi script.
Your accent comes with it: a clone sounds like you speaking Hindi, not like a different native speaker. Every free account includes one voice clone. Clone only your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed.
FAQ
Questions creators ask
Yes. CapCut has been blocked in India since July 2020, when it was among 47 more apps blocked after the June 2020 order that blocked TikTok and 58 others. In India, use VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app to add a voice-over.
CapCut's help page does not list its voices or languages, so check the list in your app. If it has no Hindi voice you like, or you are in India where CapCut is blocked, play your Hindi script here, save it after free signup and import the file into your editor.
Yes, where CapCut is available. CapCut's own guide says you can upload audio from your device on the phone, or use Import on the desktop app. Save the voice-over from the Sonex dashboard first: Download audio saves a WAV file, and the API returns MP3.
No. Sonex reads a script you type in a natural voice, or in your own cloned voice. It does not change the voice in an existing recording and has no sound effects or music.
Any of VN, InShot or Instagram's Edits app. All three take an audio file from your phone. Edits suits creators who post mainly Reels; VN and InShot suit YouTube and Shorts as well.
Yes. Audio you generate, on the free tier or with paid credits, can be used on monetised YouTube channels, Shorts, Reels and in ads, with no attribution. YouTube limits mass-produced, repetitive videos, not AI voices, so write your own script and keep your edits original. The monetisation decision is YouTube's.
The audio you generate is yours to use, including commercially, with no attribution and no royalties to Sonex Labs. You are responsible for the script itself: if you read someone else's text, you need their permission.
Yes. A Sonex voice clone is not tied to the language it was recorded in. Type a Hindi script and your clone reads it in your own voice, with Hindi pronunciation. Your natural accent carries over, so it sounds like you speaking Hindi.
