English to Telugu voice translation is mostly the kind of message people in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana get every day: an EMI due date, a doctor's time, where to meet. Spoken Telugu, with the English words left in, is what makes those sound like a person rather than a circular.

మీ EMI వచ్చే నెల ఐదో తారీఖుకి కట్టాలి.
The doctor will see you at eleven tomorrow.
డాక్టర్ గారు రేపు పదకొండు గంటలకి మిమ్మల్ని చూస్తారు.
Shall we meet at the bus stand at six?

Register
Telugu went through its own argument about register. Older writing used గ్రాంథిక భాష, the classical literary style with verb forms such as చేయుచున్నాను; the వ్యావహారిక భాష movement of the early twentieth century, led by Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy, pushed writing towards the spoken form, చేస్తున్నాను. Today newspapers and most writing use the spoken standard, but official notices still sound bookish.
Vyas is asked for everyday spoken Telugu with మీరు for the listener, and keeps the English words Telugu speakers use without thinking, such as EMI, doctor and bus stand. Numbers, dates and amounts come out as words, the way someone would say them on a call.
Telugu first-person verbs do not change for a man or a woman: వస్తాను (I will come) and చూశాను (I saw) are the same for anyone, so a translation usually suits every voice as it is. Gender appears in the third person singular (వచ్చాడు, వచ్చింది); the respectful plural వచ్చారు avoids it.

How it works
Vyas, the Sonex Labs language model, turns your English into everyday spoken Telugu, and is asked to write numbers and times as words so they are read naturally and to keep the speaker's gender unmarked, so any voice can read the result. The same model is available through an OpenAI-compatible API.
Pāṇini, the Sonex Labs text-to-speech model, reads the Telugu translation live in the voice you pick; nothing on this page is pre-recorded. To turn longer Telugu scripts into audio, or to hear more Telugu voices, use the Telugu text-to-speech page.
FAQ
Yes, on this page. Translate up to 220 characters of English at a time and play the Telugu result, with no account; very heavy use from one connection is asked to sign up. Signing up is free and gives 10,000 text-to-speech characters and one voice clone, no card required. To build translation into your own app, Vyas costs $0.30 per million input tokens and $0.60 per million output tokens. Pāṇini costs $0.03125 per 1,000 characters, the same rate for every language.
Yes, once you sign up (free). The player on this page plays audio in the browser only. After sign-up, the API returns Telugu audio as MP3 when you set "output_format": "mp3", and the dashboard saves each clip as a WAV file.
Not yet. The translator takes typed or pasted text only, up to 220 characters at a time.
Vyas is suited to short, everyday sentences like the samples on this page, but its translation quality has not been measured on a public benchmark, and like any machine translation it can get names, idioms and tone wrong. The translation box is editable, so fix anything before you play it, and have a native Telugu speaker check anything medical, legal or financial.
The player offers three voices, starting with Ananya, a native Telugu voice. Any Sonex Labs voice can read Telugu and keeps its own accent. After sign-up you can also clone a voice from a 10-second recording and use it for Telugu.
