Three everyday English to Marathi translations

English to Marathi voice translation is mostly for messages across Maharashtra: an appointment time, a parcel, a reminder to bring a document. Spoken Marathi, with the softened endings and तुम्ही, sounds like a call from a person rather than a printed notice.

Your appointment is tomorrow at half past ten.

तुमची अपॉइंटमेंट उद्या साडेदहा वाजता आहे.

The parcel will reach you by Saturday.

पार्सल शनिवारपर्यंत तुमच्याकडे पोहोचेल.

Please bring your Aadhaar card with you.

Formal and everyday Marathi

Written Marathi and spoken Marathi differ in small ways that add up when the text is read aloud. Written forms end in -ए and -ले (मिनिटे, केले); speech softens them to -ं (मिनिटं, केलं). Official text addresses the reader as आपण and says कृपया; people on the phone say तुम्ही and जरा.

Vyas is asked for everyday spoken Marathi in Devanagari with तुम्ही for the listener, the standard most Marathi speakers hear on the news and in Pune and Mumbai offices, and keeps the English words people use, such as appointment, parcel and Aadhaar card.

Keeping the speaker's gender out of the translation

Marathi verbs change with the speaker's gender: गेलो for a man, गेले for a woman, and येतो against येते. So that any voice can read the result, Vyas rephrases first-person sentences, for example उद्या येणार आहे (I will come tomorrow), where येणार does not change, or पोहोचायला दहा मिनिटं लागतील (it will take ten minutes to get there). Edit the translation if you want the form that matches one voice.

How it works

Vyas translates, Pāṇini speaks the Marathi

Translation by Vyas

Vyas, the Sonex Labs language model, turns your English into everyday spoken Marathi, and is asked to write numbers and times as words so they are read naturally and to keep the speaker's gender unmarked, so any voice can read the result. The same model is available through an OpenAI-compatible API.

Speech by Pāṇini

Pāṇini, the Sonex Labs text-to-speech model, reads the Marathi translation live in the voice you pick; nothing on this page is pre-recorded. To turn longer Marathi scripts into audio, or to hear more Marathi voices, use the Marathi text-to-speech page.

FAQ

English to Marathi voice translation, answered

Yes, on this page. Translate up to 220 characters of English at a time and play the Marathi result, with no account; very heavy use from one connection is asked to sign up. Signing up is free and gives 10,000 text-to-speech characters and one voice clone, no card required. To build translation into your own app, Vyas costs $0.30 per million input tokens and $0.60 per million output tokens. Pāṇini costs $0.03125 per 1,000 characters, the same rate for every language.

Yes, once you sign up (free). The player on this page plays audio in the browser only. After sign-up, the API returns Marathi audio as MP3 when you set "output_format": "mp3", and the dashboard saves each clip as a WAV file.

Not yet. The translator takes typed or pasted text only, up to 220 characters at a time.

Vyas is suited to short, everyday sentences like the samples on this page, but its translation quality has not been measured on a public benchmark, and like any machine translation it can get names, idioms and tone wrong. The translation box is editable, so fix anything before you play it, and have a native Marathi speaker check anything medical, legal or financial.

The player offers three voices, starting with Rujuta, a native Marathi voice. Any Sonex Labs voice can read Marathi and keeps its own accent. After sign-up you can also clone a voice from a 10-second recording and use it for Marathi.
