Hausa AI voice generator

There is no native Hausa platform voice yet, so the playground uses Mark, a voice recorded in another language: the Hausa text is read correctly, in that voice's accent. For a local accent, clone a native Hausa speaker from a 10-second recording and use that voice for every clip.

Free Hausa text to speech: what you get

  • Play up to 220 characters of Hausa at a time in the playground above, with no account.
  • Sign up free for 10,000 characters and one voice clone, no card required.
  • After sign-up, get MP3 from the API or download clips from the dashboard.
  • After the free characters, $0.03125 per 1,000 characters, the same rate for every language.

Convert Hausa text to audio (MP3)

Sign up free, then send Hausa text to the API with "output_format": "mp3" and save the file, or generate clips in the dashboard and download them. Scripts longer than the playground's 220 characters work the same way.

About Hausa

How Hausa speech is read

Hausa is written today in boko, a Latin alphabet with hooked letters, ɓ, ɗ and ƙ, plus 'y, for sounds English does not have: the ɗ in kuɗi (money), the ƙ in ƙarfe, the word used for telling the time. An older Arabic-based script, ajami, is still used in Koranic schools and some community writing. Hausa has tones and long and short vowels, but ordinary text marks neither, so a voice has to know the words to say them right.

Hausa is the main language of northern Nigeria and southern Niger and a trade language well beyond its native speakers. Islamic scholarship gave it many Arabic words, lafiya (health, well-being), lokaci (time), littafi (book), and contact with English added asibiti (hospital) and banki. Greetings carry weight: a call that opens with Sannu or Ina kwana? (good morning) sounds respectful before the message starts. For banks, health programmes and agricultural services in the north, Hausa is often the language customers are most comfortable hearing, and on a basic phone a voice call reaches people that a written message may not.

Use Hausa AI voice-overs on monetised channels

  • Use the audio in YouTube videos, Shorts, Instagram Reels, podcasts and ads, including on monetised channels.
  • This applies to the free tier and to paid credits. No attribution to Sonex Labs is needed.
  • You are responsible for your script, and for disclosing realistic synthetic content where a platform asks you to.

YouTube

Can a channel with an AI voice be monetised?

Yes, AI voices are allowed. What YouTube limits is mass-produced, repetitive content: videos made from a template with little original work. Its July 2025 update renamed that rule from “repetitious” to “inauthentic” content (YouTube’s monetisation policies).

Write your own script, add your own research or editing, and keep one consistent voice for the channel. Where a realistic AI voice could mislead viewers, use YouTube’s altered or synthetic content label. The monetisation decision is always YouTube’s.

Voice cloning

Your own voice, speaking Hausa

Clone your voice from a 10-second recording. Your clone speaks Hausa, and every other language Pāṇini supports, in your own voice. The language comes from the text you type, so a clone recorded in English or Hindi can read a Hausa script.

Your accent comes with it: a clone sounds like you speaking Hausa, not like a different native speaker. Every free account includes one voice clone. Clone only your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed.

API

Hausa TTS API

One request returns Hausa audio as MP3. The language is detected from the text, so no language setting is needed. Pāṇini TTS starts streaming audio in under 200 ms (time to first byte).

Yes. Audio you generate, on the free tier or with paid credits, can be used on monetised YouTube channels, Shorts, Reels and in ads, with no attribution. Yes. A Sonex voice clone is not tied to the language it was recorded in. Type a Hausa script and your clone reads it in your own voice, with Hausa pronunciation. Your natural accent carries over, so it sounds like you speaking Hausa.
