Amharic text to speech

Amharic text to speech (Amharic TTS) reads text written in the Ge'ez script, or fidel, aloud, with no need to transliterate it into Latin letters. Play it free below with no login, and write times in the Ethiopian or the international clock, whichever your listeners use. There is no native Amharic platform voice yet; the playground uses Mark, and you can clone a native speaker from 10 seconds.

Amharic AI voice generator

There is no native Amharic platform voice yet, so the playground uses Mark, a voice recorded in another language: the Amharic text is read correctly, in that voice's accent. For a local accent, clone a native Amharic speaker from a 10-second recording and use that voice for every clip.

Free Amharic text to speech: what you get

About Amharic

How Amharic speech is read

Amharic is written in the Ge'ez script, or fidel, an abugida in which each character is a consonant plus a vowel: ሰ, ሱ, ሲ, ሳ and so on through seven forms for each of more than thirty consonants. The script does not show doubled consonants, though doubling can change the meaning, so a reader has to know the word. Amharic has its own punctuation too: ። ends a sentence and ፣ works as a comma.

Ethiopia keeps its own calendar and its own clock. The day's hours are counted from about 6 a.m., so ጠዋት ሦስት ሰዓት (three o'clock in the morning) is 9 a.m. international time, and the calendar has thirteen months and runs seven to eight years behind the Gregorian one. Amharic customer messages borrow English, ኔትወርክ (network) and ኢንተርኔት, and older Italian words such as መኪና (car). Greetings start with ሰላም (peace, hello) and end with አመሰግናለሁ (thank you). As mobile money and app banking spread, a payment or appointment call that gets the Ethiopian clock right avoids a missed visit.

Use Amharic AI voice-overs on monetised channels

  • Use the audio in YouTube videos, Shorts, Instagram Reels, podcasts and ads, including on monetised channels.

YouTube

Can a channel with an AI voice be monetised?

Yes, AI voices are allowed. What YouTube limits is mass-produced, repetitive content: videos made from a template with little original work. Its July 2025 update renamed that rule from “repetitious” to “inauthentic” content (YouTube’s monetisation policies).

Write your own script, add your own research or editing, and keep one consistent voice for the channel. Where a realistic AI voice could mislead viewers, use YouTube’s altered or synthetic content label. The monetisation decision is always YouTube’s.

Voice cloning

Your own voice, speaking Amharic

Clone your voice from a 10-second recording. Your clone speaks Amharic, and every other language Pāṇini supports, in your own voice. The language comes from the text you type, so a clone recorded in English or Hindi can read a Amharic script.

Your accent comes with it: a clone sounds like you speaking Amharic, not like a different native speaker. Every free account includes one voice clone. Clone only your own voice, or a voice whose owner has agreed.

API

Amharic TTS API

One request returns Amharic audio as MP3. The language is detected from the text, so no language setting is needed. Pāṇini TTS starts streaming audio in under 200 ms (time to first byte).

Yes. A Sonex voice clone is not tied to the language it was recorded in. Type a Amharic script and your clone reads it in your own voice, with Amharic pronunciation. Your natural accent carries over, so it sounds like you speaking Amharic.
